The authorities of Abia State University, Uturu, are set to charge returning students of the institution a non-refundable “COVID-19 Pandemic Prevention Fee”.
A statement signed by the institution’s registrar, Acho Elendu, indicates that all students are expected to pay the N15,000 Pandemic Prevention Fee, before the commencement of the University’s first semester exams on Monday, November 16.
The money to be paid by students is to help the University defer cost of fumigation of hostels and lecture halls.
Nigerian Universities have been on a strike action called by the Academic Staff Union of Universities(ASUU), since March. While students of Federal Universities are still unsure of how long the strike action will last, most state owned universities have commenced academic activities.
