Senator representing Rivers south east senatorial district, Senator Magnus Abe has described comments made by former Rivers state governor and minister of transportation, Rotimi Amaechi at the Rivers State APC presidential rally as inciting. Rotimi Amaechi at the rally accused certain members of the party of being behind the present predicament of the party and betraying him despite his contributions to their rise politically “some of them senators”.
Speaking further Amaechi said “I made Wike local government chairman, go and ask anybody. I made him minister, when he went to Abuja and saw Jonathan he betrayed me”.
Responding Senator Abe said “the comments by the minister is inciting. He always speaks of how he was betrayed by everybody but never mentions how he betrayed the collective interest of members of the All Progressive Congress(APC) who looked up to him as their leader and has put the party in a position where it is not certain of having candidates in the forthcoming election.”
Senator Abe blamed the stampede at the rally on poor crowd control and commiserated with members of the party who lost their lives and the injured.
Senator Magnus Ngei Abe led faction of the party has been engulfed in a supremacy battle with the Rotimi Amaechi faction of the party, which has resulted in the Independent National Electoral Commission excluding the party from fielding candidates in the state. While the supreme court has concluded matters concerning Amaechi’s preferred candidate Tonye Cole, Senator Abe still hopes on the Appeal court to validate his candidacy and other candidates from his faction.
