The political camp of Nigeria’s minister of transportation and former governor of Rivers state, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, seems to be in disarray recently.
In August, former majority leader of the state house of assembly and campaign director for Tonye Cole(Ameachi’s preferred APC candidate) in the 2019 elections, Dr Chidi Lloyd, abandoned him and returned to the PDP.
While being received by Governor Wike, Lloyd stated “I’ve have seen the light and I’m begging for forgiveness from all those I’ve offended”.
Yesterday, a former commissioner for health and Chieftain of the All Progressive Congress(APC), Dr Sampson Parker, abandoned the minister’s camp for the PDP.
Receiving Dr Parker, Governor Nyesom Wike recognized the role he(Parker) played in Ameachi becoming governor and urged PDP member not to discriminate against the medical doctor turned politician. Governor Wike also promised to carry out all the promises he made to Dr Parker’s Okochiri community and Okirika during the campaigns.
“Dr Parker was one of those God used alongside some of us to bring Amaechi in as Governor of Rivers State in 2007. We thought from that time, everybody will be united, but we didn’t know some persons had different plans, but God’s plan is always the best.
I am happy today my brother and friend has realised what I told him then and has returned to the PDP. Dr Parker came at the right time and nobody should discriminate him because, with the level of politics he had played, he will add value to the Party.”
The reason for the defections from the Rivers APC by its chieftains isn’t clear and only time will tell whether more party bigwigs will join the train towards Wike’s camp.
