Governor of Borno state, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has escaped an attack on his convoy by Boko Haram insurgents in the Baga axis of the state yesterday.
The governor according to his Special Adviser on Media, Isa Gusau was on a visit to the internally displaced persons camps, having been assured by the man of the Nigerian Army that the area is safe having been liberated from the insurgents.
Speaking in an interview on BBC Hausa Service earlier today, Gusau said the governor and his team are in good condition.
“I was not there physically. The governor was heading to Baga from Munguno because the soldiers told him they have liberated Baga from the control of Boko Haram.
They crawled for a distance on their knees. They sustained injuries. The Boko Haram insurgents were shooting.”
Those in the governor’s convoy at the time of the incident included policeman, government officials, press men and other security operatives who repelled the attack by the insurgents.
