A high court sitting in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital has nullified all primaries held by the factional APC chairman Ojukaye Flag-Amachree. Hon Amachree leads the faction loyal to Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi.
The court held that the congress which produced Amachree held in disobedience of a court order, hence any action taken by him and members of his exco are null and void.
You would recall that a faction of the party loyal to Senator Magnus Abe had approached the court to prevent ward, local government and state congresses from holding to produce a new state executive, while the court granted their prayers, the Minister of Transportation asked his faction to proceed with the congresses which has further led to both factions conducting different primaries in the state. While the Amaechi faction conducted indirect primaries which produced Tonye Cole as the party’s gubernatorial candidate, Abe’s faction conducted direct primaries which saw Senator Abe emerge as the party’s flag bearer.
While the APC is yet react to this, it is likely that the party may not field aspirants to various offices in the 2019 election.
