The crisis engulfing the Akwa Ibom state ministry of health seems unending. Earlier this week the Chairman NMA in the state, Dr Nsikak Nyoyoko accused ‘powers from above’ of stopping medical professionals from going about their duties.
While the dust raised by Dr Nyoyoko’s press release is yet to settle, reports indicate that the state epidemiologist, Dr Aniekeme Uwah has been removed from office for taking samples of suspected COVID – 19 cases.
Dr Uwah who is a former NMA chairman in Akwa Ibom state and in the South-South is said to have carried out his actions without the permission of the state commissioner for Health, Dr Dominic Ukpong.
Dr Ukpong has had series of confrontations with various healthcare unions within the state, which culminated in their staging a walkout on him earlier this month. Some medical personnel have accused the former Exxon Mobil doctor of being incompetent and high handed.
