The President Muhammadu Buhari led government has declared war on the Chief Justice of Nigeria(CJN), Justice Walter Onnoghen. Reports indicate that the presidency has asked the revered CJN to resign from office with immediate effect pending his arraignment at the Code of Conduct Tribunal(CCT) on monday, over money laundering issues and failure to declare his assets.
According to the charge sheets which had been served the CJN on friday, the federal government is accusing him of refusal to declare his assets in breach of the procedures of the code of conduct bureau and for also maintaining domiciliary pound, dollars and euro accounts contrary to existing laws meant to guide the conducts of public office holders.
It is not yet certain if Justice Onnoghen whose appointment as substantiate CJN was unduly delayed by the President is being hunted for the decision of the supreme court to discharge Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki, in line with the judgement delivered by the CCT, whom the presidency is said to have wanted convicted.
