Doubts have emerged about Nigeria’s new chief of army staff(COAS), Attahiru Ibrahim’s, capability to perform in his new office.
Attahiru Ibrahim in 2017 was sacked by the immediate past chief of Army staff, Tukur Buratai, over his failure to deliver as theatre commander.
Immediate past COAS Tukur Buratai, had given Ibrahim a 40 days ultimatum to deliver Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau dead or alive, a task Ibrahim failed to deliver.
Within his tenure as theater commander, insurgents attacked Maiduguri, the Borno state capital, military formations as well as travellers within the state, leading to his replacement by Major General Nicholas Rogers.
With Ibrahim’s appointment, a section of Nigerians have expressed worry over his ability to handle the various security challenges bedevilling the nation, seeing that he failed in a lesser assignment.
The question remains, is President Buhari rewarding incompetence with Attahiru Ibrahim’s appointment?
