Northern leaders of nothingness. – Bello Ibrahim

Dear Northern Governors,

As a citizen of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and in particular a northerner, I have perused your resolutions reached at the expanded Northern Governors Forum meeting held in Kaduna. The outcome of that meeting laid to rest any iota of doubt about the lackadaisical disposition of northern leaders on issues that concern the common man.

In the resolutions #EndSARS was mentioned Ten (10) times, Social-Media was mentioned twice, while Insecurity, Banditry, Boko Haram, Poverty, Illiteracy, Almajiri and Economy were all mentioned once. Yes, just once.

In paragraph six of the resolutions and I quote “MEETING RAISES ATTENTION ON THE NEED TO KEEP STRICT WATCH ON THE FEDERAL CAPITAL TERRITORY TO GUIDE AGAINST UNWARRANTED AND DESTRUCTIVE(sic) PROTESTS TO SAFEGUARD CRITICAL ASSETS OF THE NATION.

The above quoted paragraph is enough to tell the world where your priorities lie. The critical assets of any nation is her people. Insecurity is synonymous to northern Nigeria and it is not a front burner concern.

In Niger State, just like most parts of Northern Nigeria, we have lost potential Presidents, Governors, Economists, Professors, Medical Doctors and Engineers to insecurity. The people are the critical assets deserving safeguard, not FCT.

Your particular interest on FCT is understandable. That’s where most of you relish while terrorists slaughter us in cold blood.

Dear northern leaders, fear the anger of the meek and downtrodden. Fear the rage and fury of the hopeless, helpless and hapless members of your communities. That should be your concern, not FCT, not EndSARS.

Talking about social media being used for fake news, with the below instances, it is obvious the masses are taking a cue from their leaders:

1. On social media, President Buhari commissioned an uncompleted Baro Port. That was fake and inciting news.

2. On social media, President Buhari promised to fix our existing refineries and build new ones. That has so far proven to be fake.

The list is endless.

Remember, he who comes to equity must do so with clean hands.
