The Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) has announced the postponement of the 2019 elections by one week. This the commission says is to ensure it sorts out logistic issues relating to the elections.
Briefing newsmen at the commission headquarters in Abuja earlier today, the chairman of the commission noted that it was a difficult decision to make but ultimately made in the interest of the nation.
With this postponement, national assembly and presidential election will now hold on 23rd February 2019 while governorship and state assembly elections will now hold on 9th of March 2019.
While Nigerians await a full explanation from INEC as to what necessitated the postponement, there has been public outcry and condemnation of the postponement as it will disenfranchise many eligible voters who travelled long distances to vote.
