2019 the much anticipated year is finally here.
To Nigerians this year holds a lot of uncertainty. With the 2019 general elections less than two months away, the future of the nation hangs in the balance.
While the opposition Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) and its supporters see this year as one in which the current administration will be sent packing for lack of performance, members of the ruling All Progressives Congress(APC), look forward to a consolidation of its stronghold on the Nation’s political landscape.
The Nigerian Labour Congress(NLC) is already agitating for a show down with the government over the unresolved new minimum wage. With the Academic Staff Union of Universities determined to continue with its strike action, it appears a total shutdown of the system beckons – as threatened by the NLC.
Many more Nigerians are hoping this year brings with it plenty. For a nation now named as the poverty capital of the world, where millions have lost their jobs in the last three years, 2019 is looked upon to herald a reversal of fortunes.
The men of the Nigerian Armed Forces and indeed many more Nigerians, look forward to a year when all forms of insurgency will be defeated and the Nation will experience peace.
All eyes are on INEC to conduct a rancour free, transparent and acceptable election. While it is hoped that the Buhari led administration will improve on its record as regards respect for the rule of law.
In all 2019 promises to be eventful. As you get ready to begin the hustle and bustle, may the odds continually be in your favour.
